THE ROUTE
Asolo the “city of a hundred horizons” (as Carducci defined it) rises on the slopes of the Asolo hills, halfway between the wooded Prealps and the flat Marca Trevigiana, in a context made up of vineyards and olive trees. However, it is not only Asolo that offers idyllic views: the whole surrounding area, from Montello al Piave to the hills of Monfumo: thanks to a non-binding itinerary it is suitable for everyone, better with an e-bike to rent at Tempo di Sport on Feltrina. The first ten kilometers up to Casella d’Asolo run smoothly through secondary country lanes: the first difficulties come with the ascent to Asolo along the “Foresto Vecchio” and the final climb to the foot of the Rocca. The next stairway to the historic center represents the most technical point of the itinerary, better if done on foot. Having tackled the dirt descent of Santa Caterina you then reach Pagnano, and from here you enter the low peaks of the Val Sesilla and Monfumo with pleasant cart tracks and a few more grim ramps. To connect to the nearby ridge of the “Castles” you will have to cross a grassy valley furrow and then go up the difficult slopes of the Col degli Ulivi. Easy asphalted ups and downs now allow you to move eastwards, touching the hamlet of Palazzo Neville and then taking a wooded track towards Onigo: with the itinerary that proceeds in a very slight descent, you go along the Pederobba Canal and then move on to the floodplain area of the Piave where wide and fast dirt tracks lead to the slopes of Montello. Return to the starting point, it is advisable to do it clockwise.
START POINT: Cornuda via dell’industria near Pittarosso .
